“Each thought, each action in the sunlight of awareness becomes sacred.”
I always have a recognition and appreciation for the fact that as we seek to find meaning in our lives, we crave the balance between the inner silence of meditation and the hurly-burly of outer activity. Meditation may seem to require training and spiritual tools but the truth is that it is simple, simple, simple.
It is wonderful to transform the routine into ritual by being mindful and in the moment. Washing the dishes, walking to the store, taking a shower, if you are really in the moment and fully experiencing the event, it is a meditation.
Meditation is the connection of heart with universe, it is your connection to spirit. As you experience the back and forth between your inner and outer worlds your life will take on a deeper meaning and be more fulfilling.
(Not to gloat!), but living here in my simple place on the shore of Vancouver Island, my morning ritual begins with stepping out onto my balcony looking out at the majesty and power of the Pacific Ocean, and filling my lungs and my heart with the clean fresh air. The next step is sitting for my daily meditation on my cushion looking out at the ocean, pure joy! Life becomes richer when we create rituals that feed and nurture the soul.
You may not have an ocean in your front yard, but you can create ritual and ceremony using simple objects that have meaning for you. Having fresh flowers, candles and plants in your environment is a great place to start. I love simple rituals, such as lighting a candle before I begin my work, make a special phone call or get involved in any task that I view as sacred.
These are two enlightened books which helped me immensely when I was lost and looking for salvation. I love and highly recommend, Wherever You Go, There You Are, by John Kabat-Zinn and Peace is Every Step, by Thich Nhat Hanh.
Begin to create beauty and meaning in your daily life with simple steps. My brand new Violet program offers personalized guided meditations and I will help you establish daily self care rituals including a mindful meditation practice.
Stay tuned for changes next week! I will be sharing my weekly blog/ articles on Tuesdays, and this is big…my goal for next week is to tackle technology head on and offer you a beautiful guided meditation that you can keep and listen to over and over. Keep your fingers crossed and watch for it! Oh, and it’s the letter N…not sure about that one yet.
Wishing you a mindful, meaningful week.
